Our first ever Design Competition Collection is here! Submissions began late October 2022 across 2 categories- Ring Design & Pendant Design. The competition was tough, the talent in the submissions was obvious and choosing the winning pieces was no easy task! We ended up choosing 2 winners from each category. This is Em Golds' winning ring submission the Peony Oni Ring.
Featuring a stunning artpiece of a Japanese Oni Mask embellished with a Peoni Flower on our 15mm x 20mm Oval Signet Ring Base. The ring shoulders are engraved with a Kanji. Cast in solid stainless steel, the ring is durable, long lasting and has a beautiful polished shine.
"I have been intrigued and allured by Japanese art ever since studying it at school and visiting Japan in 2011. I have also been drawn to darker sorts of artwork too which is why I incorporated the oni into my design; though it's seen to represent a range of negative things like chaos, bad luck, violence and destruction I think it’s badass. I also have a love for the peoni flower ( I have them tattooed on my shoulders). Being a popular ornamental flower in Japan I figured they would make the perfect pairing with the oni; a perfect mix of beauty and evil. I think Japanese characters, particulary kanji, is art in itself, which is why I chose to have it engraved on either side of the band."
